What the Fairness Score measures
- Participation balance compares each player’s game total with the ideal distribution.
- Partner and opponent diversity penalize avoidable repeats rather than repeats forced by the field size.
- Court balance and rest gaps are reported separately so the organizer can see the tradeoff.
Example: ten players, two courts and five rounds
Two doubles courts use eight players per round, so two people rest. Across five rounds there are ten rest assignments—exactly one per player if the schedule can distribute them perfectly. Partner repeats may still be unavoidable depending on the number of rounds.
When rotating doubles fits
Use it for social racket-sport sessions where individuals change partners and keep an individual table.
Use a fixed-team round robin when pairs should stay together for the entire event.
Fairness and constraints
- Not every combination can score 100; limited courts or many rounds can force repeats.
- The optimizer balances schedule structure, not player skill, unless ratings are explicitly available.
- The Fairness Score is an organizer aid and not an official sporting certification.
Rotating doubles questions
Do I need a multiple of four players?
No. Players outside the active groups rest, and the scheduler rotates those rests as evenly as possible.
Can every schedule score 100?
No. The report distinguishes unavoidable constraints from avoidable repeats or uneven rests.
Can I change the number of rounds?
Yes. The preview recalculates matches, estimated duration and fairness before you generate.
Are standings individual?
Yes. Each player receives the result and score recorded for the pair they belonged to in that match.
