Plan around pitches and match length
- The football page starts with the production round-robin format. For n teams, one leg creates n(n−1)/2 fixtures: six football teams create 15 matches and seven create 21.
- Six teams use 5 logical rounds; seven teams use 7 rounds because the odd field receives one rotating bye position. The bye is not a football result and does not add a point.
- Choose the number of pitches before generation. With 6 teams and 2 pitches, each 3-match logical round uses 2 playing slots; 20-minute matches therefore take about 200 minutes before breaks and changeovers.
Worked example: six teams on two pitches
Six football teams create 15 matches over 5 rounds. Each round contains 3 matches, so 2 pitches require 2 slots per round: 10 slots in total. At 20 minutes per match slot, the playing time is about 200 minutes, excluding warm-up, breaks, delays and pitch changes.
League or knockout?
Use the football round robin when every team needs the same opportunity to play every other team and the event can accommodate 15 matches for six teams.
Use single elimination for a short cup-style event: six teams expand to 8 bracket places, so 2 first-round byes are explicit and the main bracket contains 7 knockout matches.
Organizer checks
- The page assigns numbered pitches and ordered slots; it does not create team registration, squad lists, referee assignments or an Excel workbook.
- The displayed time is a structural estimate. Add warm-up, halftime, changeovers, weather delays and movement between pitches.
- Round-robin ranking and score entry are available in the product, but the organizer must verify the competition’s official tie-break order before publishing final positions.

How many fixtures do six teams need?
Six teams create 6×5/2 = 15 fixtures in one leg and 5 logical rounds. A second leg makes 30 fixtures over 10 rounds.
What happens with seven teams?
The engine creates 21 fixtures over 7 rounds and one team rests in each round. The rest rotates through the field.
How do I make a knockout football cup?
Choose single elimination in the format step. Six teams then use an 8-place bracket with 2 first-round byes and 7 main matches.
